Sail With the Wind, sent off at 16-1 odds and pretty much dismissed by the race day crowd, powered to an impressive win by 4 lengths in the $88,000 maiden special weight run for New York breds on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
The race was a mile on the dirt as Saturday rains caused it be moved from the original surface, turf, to dirt. The field scratched down to 6 competitors with an overwhelming 4/5 favorite drawing in as a main track only runner.
Coming out of the mile Wilson shut Sail With the Wind again was bumped by a competitor but jockey Manny Franco was able to keep her in stride and settled quickly behind the 4/5 favorite through the back stretch run. As the field moved onto the stretch turn Franco asked her for more, she responded and easily moved to take the lead as the field straighten. She was challenged briefly and Sail With the Wind widened stride and her advantage pulling away for a 4 length victory.
